Oh, woe is me...

Oh, woe is me....

It has been three weeks since my first submission.

I thought I could handle the waiting, but you see, I am totally, completely, utterly....FULL OF IT!

I revise, I check my email.

I read, I check my email.

I Facebook, I check my email.

I check the missed call on my cell phone from a mysterious area code, it's that political party needing money to stop the end of the world.

The home phone rings, it's Velma looking for Dr. Mortinson's office.

 Dang!

What if no one likes my baby?
I think I might be sick.
What the heck am I doing with my life?

But I know I don't want to do anything else in the whole, entire universe! I've checked. And for that I say, YAY! =)

Oh, woe is me.

  2. I'm also sending positive thoughts. It's tough. I've heard several novelists say it helps them to keep writing. Easier said than done. Isn't it?

    1. Writing has been helping and reading books on writing, that is really motivating! Thanks so much Stacy for your support! I felt a slight tickle in my nose... must have been those positive thoughts you sent! =)

  3. Hang in there, Bananabeth! The waiting is awful, I know. But have faith in your work - it's terrific! - and remember that even great writers like Madeleine L'Engle and Dr, Seuss and J.K. Rowling didn't get their mss picked up on the first try, so if worst comes to worst and your submission comes back, just send it out again!! Meanwhile, keep busy with something new. Oh, wait! I have an awesome idea! Enter a contest! I just so happen to know of one that's going on right now! :) http://susannahill.blogspot.com/2012/05/birthday-contest-for-childrens-writers.html

    1. Thanks Susanna! Patience is not my strong suit.

I have made a second list of equally impressive and intimidating agents that is ready to go as soon as I get responses or I guess in certain cases, no response, back.

I like your idea of something new. Today I racked (or wracked) my brain for birthday ideas for that amazing contest you mentioned, but have had no luck...YET! =) It might be one of those middle of the night, idea-popping-into-your-brain-so-you-can't-sleep occurences. =) Thanks so much for your support!

P.S. Book in mail, with some unexpected glitter and a slight, thrown-in-the purse crease for good luck!

  4. I'm sending positive thoughts your way, too!!! The waiting isn't easy. None of it is easy and that is why we are so invested! I like Susanna's advice...keep busy with something new :-)

  5. Deep breaths. Be all right, be fine. (My grandmother's favorite words to herself or others. I've adopted them.) Whatever happens will happen in its own time. (Yes, I know that's easy to say. After I send in my next submission, I'll join you in the pacing.)

    1. I LOVE that, "Be all right, be fine." I can see why you have adopted those words. =)I do not have anything remotely as beautiful or uplifting, unless of course you count the musical brainwashing I experienced as a young kiddo at the hands of my father..."Time, is on my side..."
      - Mick Jagger.

      I think I like yours better. =)

  7. The waiting is really hard. I've gotten to the point where, after a week has gone by, I resolve to forget about it. That way, if I do get anything back, it will be a VERY pleasant surprise. Good luck though!

    1. Thanks Julie!

I think one of my biggest fantasy/delusions is that my agent-to-be would get back to me within the first week or two, saying I want to marry your manuscript, be mine! (as per your blog today.) So when I don't get a manuscript "proposal" within that time, I become doubtful, insecure and whiney. =) (Or is it whiny?)

  9. Hang in there! I think you are fantastic, and it's just a matter of time before that big-fat contract. Here's to hoping it's sooner rather than later. :)
